As the co-founder and CEO of Olam Group for over three decades, Sunny Verghese has played a pivotal role in transforming Olam into a billion-dollar global food and agri-business. Under his leadership, Olam has become a major player in the food and agricultural industry, employing 82,000 individuals, serving 19,800 customers, and operating in 70 countries. Listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, Olam is engaged in trading food ingredients and agricultural raw materials, including cocoa, coffee, rice, nuts, spices, and cotton.

Olam has cultivated crops in its own estates and orchards while also sourcing produce from over 5 million farmers worldwide. This approach not only enhances yields, quality, and farmer incomes but also involves significant investments in community initiatives, including health and education.

Sunny Verghese has led Olam in developing one of the most comprehensive sustainable sourcing solutions for business-to-business (B2B) customers—AtSource. This digital offering can track more than 90 indicators for a single ingredient from farm to the customer’s doorstep, promoting transparency and responsible sourcing.

Olam is among the companies that have pledged support for global efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, as demonstrated during COP26. Sunny Verghese’s dedication to sustainability extends to his role as Chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, where he has played a vital role in advancing sustainable business practices on a global scale.

Sunny Verghese’s leadership and entrepreneurial skills have earned him numerous accolades over the years. He was named EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008 and received the SCA Award for Best CEO in 2011. In addition, he has been honored with the Public Service Medal. Sunny, an Indian national, has lived in various parts of the world, including Nigeria, London, and Singapore.

Sunny Verghese currently holds chairman positions at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Board of the Human Capital Leadership Institute. He holds a management degree from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
