St. James’s Place plc Strengthens Asian Presence with Appointment of John Elkovich as Singapore CEO
British wealth-management behemoth St. James’s Place plc (SJP) has hired John Elkovich as the new Chief Executive Officer for its Singapore business, as of 1 September 2025, in a major leadership change to spread the firm’s footprint across Southeast Asia.
Elkovich, who joined SJP in 2024 in the role of Head of Partnership, was also Interim Singapore office CEO from April 2025. He now moves into the job permanently, reporting directly to Oliver Wickham, Partnership Director for Asia and the Middle East. The move follows as Singapore continues to cement its place among one of the world’s most vibrant wealth-management centers.
With more than 30 years of experience in financial services across wealth-management, insurance, and private banking in Australia and Singapore, Elkovich brings significant industry knowledge and regional experience to his new position. His broad background includes senior leadership roles at international institutions where he had responsibility for business-development, client relationships, and adviser-network expansion throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Commenting on his appointment, Elkovich stated he was “privileged to head SJP Singapore during a period when there is expanding demand for reliable financial guidance in Asia.” He continued that the firm’s focus on long-term relationships, adviser development, and ethical investment advice placed it well positioned to meet the changing needs of clients in Singapore and the wider region.
Under his stewardship, the Singapore office will concentrate on growing its adviser-partner network, deepening client relationship, and establishing new capabilities in digital advisory and regional business development. SJP’s Singapore entity sits at the heart of the firm’s wider Asia strategy as a hub for high-net-worth and expatriate clients in need of personalised, cross-border wealth solutions.
Oliver Wickham, Partnership Director for the Middle East & Asia, commended Elkovich’s experience in the local market and leadership skills, saying:
“John has played a key role in leading our partnership in Singapore and driving continuity during a period of change. His vision is closely aligned with our mission to provide world-class advice and reinforce our position as a respected wealth-management partner in Asia.”
A Regional Growth Strategy
The hiring of Elkovich reflects SJP’s commitment to intensify its presence in Asia, where growing wealth and intergenerational wealth transfer are fueling intense demand for professional financial guidance. Singapore, with its sound regulatory framework, tax benefits, and role as a global financial center, has emerged as a natural hub for international wealth-management businesses looking to expand in the region.
Over the past few years, SJP has poured significant resources into the development of its adviser-training programs and local partnerships, which dovetail with the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) priority on professionalism and client transparency. The company has also focused on sustainable investing and ethical advisory practices — fields picking up strong momentum among young, values-based investors in Asia.
Experts explain that the step is indicative of wider industry trends. While global wealth managers turn their eyes east, Singapore has become a strategic launching platform not just for catering to regional high-net-worth clients but also for moving into fast-growing markets such as India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. For SJP, Elkovich’s leadership will be most important in finding its way through this competitive and changing environment.
Implications for the Wealth-Management Sector
The hiring reflects a wider trend within international advisory houses toward indigenous leadership and regional integration. By upgrading an executive with deep Asia-Pacific experience, SJP is indicating faith in indigenous strategic perception over sole dependence on London-based management.
Industry observers comment that Elkovich’s strategy is most likely to emphasize client education, relationship-based growth, and partnership development — a model that is appropriate for Singapore’s advisory landscape, where customized and compliant advice stands out as an important differentiator.
For other players in the region, particularly in India and Southeast Asia, SJP’s expansion plans may be a harbinger of intensified competition in winning clients as well as advisory professionals. The expansion also points to expanding opportunities for cross-border cooperation, as wealth-management platforms seek to network investors across Asian markets through Singapore’s highly regulated financial channels.
Looking Ahead
Elkovich’s appointment will be a source of fresh momentum for SJP’s Singapore business in 2025 and beyond. The firm’s emphasis on relationship-driven advisory, responsible investing, and regional growth puts it well-placed to harness the next wave of expansion in Asia’s financial-advice market.
Taking the reins at Elkovich will be the challenge to reconcile innovation with tradition — embracing technology and new models of client acquisition while preserving SJP’s hallmark of tailored, long-term financial advice. His leadership signals a new era for St. James’s Place plc in Asia, solidifying Singapore’s position at the center of the firm’s global growth strategy.
