Singapore Tycoon Ong Beng Seng Fined S$30,000 for Role in Obstruction of Justice Case
SINGAPORE — Property tycoon Ong Beng Seng was fined S$30,000 (US$23,400) on Friday, Aug 15, for abetting former Transport Minister S Iswaran in obstructing justice.
The case was heard in the district court, where Principal District Judge Lee Lit Cheng accepted the joint recommendation from both the prosecution and defence that judicial mercy was appropriate, citing Ong’s ill health.
Instead of sentencing Ong to a possible three months in jail, the judge imposed the maximum fine allowed by the district court.
